E' poi possibile, seguendo alcune regole, creare programmi portatili dai software che si trovano per il web.\nPrima di tentare questa operazione bisogna però sapere alcune cose: intanto tenere conto che i programmi sono quasi sempre disponibili in forma di file di installazione (Setup.exe); in tal caso è possibile utilizzare particolari software di estrazione file. L'unico attualmente esistente è Universal Extractor, scaricabile a [[questo link|http://www.legroom.net/modules.php?op=modload&name=Open_Source&file=index&page=software&app=uniextract]], che permette di estrarre i file anche dagli EXE di installazione. In questo modo salteremo l'operazione stessa di installazione sul nostro PC, estraendo il programma come un normale file compresso (NB: non tutti i programmi, saltando l'operazione di installazione, funzionano correttamente).\nPoi bisogna sapere che spesso i programmi per funzionare hanno bisogno di creare delle chiavi di registro. Per questo motivo in un certo senso sono pochi i programmi completamente portatili (cioè che non modificano il registro con queste chiavi). Per scoprire se un software modifica il registro di sistema esistono alcuni programmi di monitoraggio del registro, tra i quali si consiglia Regmon (vedi [[questo link|http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Regmon.html]]). Per risolvere questo problema alcuni programmatori stanno lavorando a piccoli launcher in grado di salvare nella stessa cartella del software le corrispondenti chiavi di registro. Uno tra questi è Reg Rapper, presente a [[questo link|http://portasoft.org/e107/download.php?view.4]].\nUn'altra cosa da tenere in conto è che spesso i programmi salvano dei dati in altre cartelle del PC (solitamente in "C:\sDocuments and Settings\s[user]\sDati applicazioni"). Per quest'altro motivo i software non risultano completamente portatili. Per scoprirlo è possibile utilizzare alcuni programmi di monitoraggio file (vedi [[questo link|http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Filemon.html]]). E anche a questo problema si stanno occupando alcuni programmatori, che lavorano a launcher in grado di salvare i dati del software nella sua stessa cartella. In particolare il primo progetto di questo tipo è nato a [[questo sito|http://portableapps.com/]]\nVi è infine un progetto, al momento il più avanzato a riguardo, che sta lavorando a un launcher completo: in grado di salvare nella sua cartella sia i dati che le chiavi di registro del software, rendendo i programmi completamente portatili. Esistono diversi progetti attualmente attivi che offrono gratuitamente una suite di programmi portatili per pendrive, sia italiani che esteri. Tra quelli italiani segnaliamo:\n* MozUp (http://dh.mozillaitalia.org/mozup/):\nNata come suite per i programmi Mozilla (Firefox, Thunderbird, Sunbird/Calendar, NVU ecc.), permette di installare anche altri programmi portatili. L'interfaccia è molto potente e facile da amministrare.\n*WinPenPack.com (http://www.winpenpack.com/main/index.php):\nAttualmente il miglior progetto italiano, ricchissimo di programmi, organizzati nelle seguenti categorie: Grafica, Internet, Multimedia, Sicurezza, Sistema, Software Didattico, Sviluppo Web, Ufficio. La suite si può scaricare in diverse versioni, per pendrive da 128, 256 e 512 Mb; oppure nelle versioni expert, personal e school. Le versioni si differenziano per le diverse raccolte di programmi presenti. La particolarità della versione Personal è che, attraverso un semplice e chiaro tutorial, è possibile crearsi la propria collezione di programmi.\n* WinInizio Pensuite (http://pensuite.wininizio.it/ita/index.html):\nSimile al precedente, distribuito in tre versioni principali: lite, premium, gold; e altre specifiche: graphics, multimedia, network, office, security, system, utilities. Meno personalizzabile della precedente, è possibile accedere al forum dal link “Supporto”, su cui cercare soluzioni e aiuto per la personalizzazione.\n\nTra i progetti non italiani va segnalato:\n*PortabelApps.com (http://portableapps.com/):\nDisponibile in due versioni, Standard (117 MB) e Light (44 MB), rilascia una suite abbastanza completa con la possibilità di espanderla personalmente con gli altri programmi presenti sul sito.\n\nTutti questi programmi presentano un'interfaccia più o meno personalizzabile, ma nessuno di questi la rilascia sotto licenza opensource (GPL o altro). Pertanto ogni trucchetto scoperto dagli utenti è tollerato, ma non ufficiale. Gli autori attingono dai forum di discussione indicazioni e suggerimenti per migliorare il loro prodotto, ma la licenza freeware non permette la modifica del codice direttamente da parte dell'utente, il quale può, a seconda dei casi, partecipare attivamente e fare richieste, sperando che vengano apportati dagli autori determinati miglioramenti.\n\nUn cambiamento sembra sia in atto nel progetto WinPenPack, grazie all'autore del Launcher "asuite", che ha da poco rilasciato il suo programma in GPL: [[http://sourceforge.net/projects/asuite/]].

La prima voce del menu, "informazioni", lancia il presente manuale all'interno di X-Firefox e potrete direttamente editarlo e aggiornarlo. oPenSuite TiddlyWiki

Il nome [[oPenSuite]] contiene in se stesso la definizione e la finalità del progetto: una suite di programmi portatili per supporti rimovibili, PenDrive, completamente opensource e particolarmente personalizzabile ed estendibile dall'utente.
